Here there is also a complete listing of French fitness and private training words. You will notice that while there are particular words for various type of gym exercise in British, in france they use very generic terms. For instance, to state “chest press” in French you say: “l’exercise pour la poitrine“, or “exercise for that chest”. Another example is “l’exercise pour l’ensemble des biceps” (exercise for that biceps), meaning curls.
