Dependence for daily existence activities within the prison population in western france - pubmed - ncbi may be necessary

OBJECTIVE:

Because the mean chronilogical age of the penitential population increases and also the time period of jail time grows longer, health services are faced using the problem of prisoners dependent for daily existence activities. The objective of this research was to look for the quantity of prisoners dependent for daily existence activities and evaluate their reliance upon human and material support.

METHODS:

Market research was conducted within the summer time of two,000 within the western region of France (19 prisons within the following regions: Pays-de-Loire, Brittany, Lower Normandy).

RESULTS:

One of the 4,168 persons incarcerated during these regions, 32 dependent prisoners were identified: 21 men (mean age 57 years) and 11 women (mean age 48 years). Of these persons, 19 endured from major or moderate dependence (GIR 1-4). The primary problems involved toilet facilities, dressing, transfers, and moving about. When human support was available, it had been generally supplied by other prisoners. Material help was scarce.

DISCUSSION:

The questions of prisoner’s legal rights, human assistance, the status of caregivers, and the requirement for adapted architectural, material, and medical facilities are discussed. The data collected here supplies a better understanding of prisoners’ needs for support as well as for changes which may be necessary within the prison atmosphere.

ThePhantomSephiroth: America, land of the free……wait.

ACrustyOldMan: you got it

derbigpr500: Love the idiots saying that USA is on top because it has the best law enforcement. Always finding a way to make themselves feel good, even though it does them no good. Those are the people that I like to call americunts, simply, dumbass morons who watch too much american TV and they're brainwashed to a point of no return. US has some of world WORST law enforcement, but it has large amount of scum and criminals per 100,000.

ZeroSuitRosalina: the stupid ass USA is #1 only because of the length of their sentences. prison sentences for any crime in that ridiculous country are by far the longest out of any country ever. on top of that, there's 3-strikes laws, mandatory minimums, and no parole. haven't you noticed that USA prison sentences are by far the longest of all countries?

plumpkitters: +ZeroSuitRosalina as an american agree its fuckin harsh for simple shit

Kyle S.: If the US government would stop criminalizing drug possession (especially marijuana) and prostitution, maybe it wouldn't be at the top.

ZeroSuitRosalina: +Daniel Davis those are not the only things wrong with the US criminal justice system. sentences for all crimes in that country are by far the longest of any country.

BDSMashups: This list is wrong. It does not takes into account population. Anyway, US will be obviously number 1 for both criteria.

Potato: So on average one in 150 Americans will go to jail? And 1 in 1000 in china?

Firmly Grasp It: No. One in 150 Americans would be currently in prison. 1 in 10 American men will go to prison and 1 in 50 American women will (in their lifetime).
